Understanding Suicidality Webinar

First responders – join us on Thursday September 25th, at 12pm PT for our discussion on Understanding Suicidality.

Suicidality is one of the most difficult and sensitive topics within workers’ compensation, yet it is a reality we cannot overlook. Injured employees and first responders living with complex conditions, such as traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and severe chronic pain, face unique risks that can lead to feelings of hopelessness and despair.

Our webinar explores how a biopsychosocial framework helps us understand and respond to suicidality, ensuring that warning signs are recognized and addressed with urgency and compassion.

Our panel brings together psychological expertise and a risk management perspective to shed light on both clinical realities and systemic challenges. Attendees will learn about the biological, psychological, and social factors that increase vulnerability, the importance of evidence-based care, and the organizational role in creating safe pathways to support.

Our discussion also examine a critical barrier in our system: when non-clinical stakeholders, such as claims adjusters, question or minimize a clinician’s assessment, delaying necessary intervention. This session is designed for clinicians, claims professionals, employers, attorneys, and risk managers.

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of suicidality through a biopsychosocial lens and the importance of system-wide collaboration in supporting recovery and preventing tragedy.

Our panel includes:

·  Dr. Evelyn Vasquez, PsyD, Assistant Director of Psychological Services, Institutes of Health

·  Dr. Geralyn Datz, PhD, MP, CEO, Southern Behavioral Medicine Associates

·  Sandy Avina, MBA, Claims Services Manager, California Schools JPA
