The Fire Department Safety Officers Association (FDSOA) is proud to announce the appointment of Chaplain Mark Yule as the organization’s Chaplain, reinforcing FDSOA’s commitment to protecting the whole firefighter — physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Chaplain Yule has served as Chaplain for the Scottsdale Fire Department for more than 15 years, walking alongside firefighters and their families through critical incidents, personal loss, and professional challenges. He is also a founding pastor of Highlands Church, a non-denominational church established in 1998.

“Firefighters face more than the physical hazards of the job,” said Eric Valliere, CEO of FDSOA. “The emotional and spiritual risks are just as real. By welcoming Chaplain Yule into our leadership team, we are acknowledging that true safety means caring for the whole person.”

Chaplain Yule believes chaplaincy aligns naturally with FDSOA’s mission.

“While the physical dangers of the fire service are obvious, the spiritual dangers are just as real,” Yule said. “This profession operates daily in a broken world that can quietly erode joy, relationships, and hope. Chaplains exist to stay vigilant and provide tools that emphasize resilience and healing.”

In January 2024, Chaplain Yule’s son Kory, a Captain with the Scottsdale Fire Department, died from cancer in the line of duty. His loss deepens Chaplain Yule’s connection to the fire service and strengthens his commitment to supporting firefighters and their families.

Married to his wife Mary Beth for nearly 50 years, Chaplain Yule is a father of two and grandfather to eight grandchildren. Outside of ministry and service, he enjoys fishing, hiking, and golfing.
