This one-day course will discuss the requirements of NFPA 1581 “Standard on Fire Department Infection Control Program”, including policy development, risk assessment and management, training, and more. Members will be introduced to the essential elements of a comprehensive program and the roles and responsibilities of those involved. We will discuss disease control and prevention, cleaning, disinfection, and occupational health.
The course teaches you about health and safety workplace standards on-scene, in apparatus, and in the fire station. We will cover the multiple kinds of microorganisms, how bacteria are transmitted, the infection chain, and much more. Students will participate in a number of individual and group exercises. You will receive an infection control certificate at the completion of the course.
